Heavy Metal Outcomes DAY 3

Today I decided to develop the experiments, creating outcomes which i could potentially go in to use in my final piece.  I wanted to create something that strongly represented heavy metal, so i picked out strong experimentation to work with and develop.  I began creating Gifs to explore the ideas of movement I was not very happy with how this GIF turned out however it was my first attempt to create a sense of movement in my pieces. To improve these they must be smoother transitions, as well as better use of composition. Also the quality of the image was not of high quality.  I decided to create my own shapes and create an explosion, while exploring transitioning. As an outcome i'm not too impressed, based on the duration and the visual look of the piece i feel it needs some more work on composition, however i do like the minimalist approach in which i took to this piece. I was much more pleased with this outcome as the transition was much smoothe...

Exploring SOUL music

Soul is a genre of music that originated in the United States in the late 1950's and early 1960's. This genre of music was i nfluential during the Civil Rights Movement. Including elements of Gospel, Blues, rhythm and Jazz. It  reflected the African-American identity, while also stressing the importance of an African-American culture.  The term ' soul'  had been used among African-American musicians to emphasise the feeling of being an African-American in the United States. It  also became a popular genre of music around the world, directly influencing rock music and the  music of Africa . Common characteristics- Call and Response Improvisation NEO SOUL- This sub-genre of soul incorporates  traditional R&B influences, conscious-driven lyrics, and strong female presence into a contemporary world of soul. It's traditional grooves and historical origin is embedded into the new technology, a mixture of live instruments and technology, along with spok...

TAPE SUPERGRAPHICS

We was asked to look at Super-graphic designs and create multiple experiments using tape. A super-graphic is .... In terms of relating to my project, i tried focus on patterns, and compositions that best represented my ideas. We had to use the tape to focus on 4 key features, which we would incorporate into our experiments.  This is a mini school building site which hosts activities for the National Deaf Children's Society (NDC) and gives deaf children a chance to learn and enjoy sports and other activities as a community. My super-graphics is designed to show awareness and also bring a positive and fun look to the building and support the national deaf children's society. Having this on the building sends a statement and shows interest towards those hard of hearing as it highlights the building and will catch the general publics eye, enabling them to want to learn more about the company. I also related the design to vibration and movement with a continuous pa...

ART FAIR VISIT

I visited an Art fair in Battersea Park for inspiration and to explore other artists visual language. In it it had displayed a collection of contemporary work and a wide range of materials and mediums which upcoming artists explored and used to create their pieces. I took notes and photographs of artists work which i felt could help with my project and also for inspiration. Eva Ullrich - Morellone With this wave like painting, the use of space in this composition makes the strokes stand out and stimulates this relaxed feeling, with the use of subtle tonal colours it creates this clear relationship within the piece. This was an influential piece and one i plan on scrutinising throughout my experimentation process. Adam Aaronson Glass   These pieces caught my attention, with the prints and decorations on the glass it raised thoughts on motions and waves. The patterns give off a sense of direction and the layering of colours and patterns intrigued me. Furthermore, i...

Experimentation DAY1

I began exploring the idea of movement and expression through colours and experimenting with different materials. I decided to take photographs and recordings of movement in liquid substances, using inks and food colouring to look at the patterns, marks and shapes they created. I came out with some very interesting photos that then generated further ideas. As i began videoing the inks dipped in water, it sparked ideas around music visualisers and the explosive colours and forms that appeared intrigued me. I wanted to capture these forms in motion as an image and evoke the same experience, while also relating it to the rock genre 'heavy-metal'.   Through Looking into the movement in the inks, my aim was to evoke expansion. I used inks and rubbing alcohol to see the reactions and marks it would create. I particularly was focused on how the inks traveled around the page, as i played with the direction in which the ink ran on the page i began to relate them to...

Experimentation DAY 2

Today i picked up from where i left off and continued to paint and create compositions for the music genre, 'Heavy Metal'. While creating these pieces i listened to multiple heavy rock classics, repeating key songs which stood out and allowed the sound to influence my work. I looked back on the research i had done with colours and emotions and decided to take that into consideration while creating these. Trying to think of surfaces and physical forms which best represented heavy metal i thought kitchen foil was a good material to work with. I scrunched up the foil and carelessly unravelled it open, which caused the rips and folds. I dabbed paint onto the foil, in an attempt to bring out the creases and create a dark ambience and feel to the surface.  Black was seen as a colour which related to power and anger, with this being key themes of heavy metal music i decided to use black as a dominant colour in my compositions and use hierarchy in my colour...
