Today i have been working on isolating sounds and focusing on the visual aspects, in order to get a much more clearer representation of music and sound. As i spent most time focusing on colour, it was suggested that I spend more time on what the sound looks like. Furthermore I decided to print all my previous paintings I had done, from the Easter break, in black and white. Then create collages of individual instruments chords in as sequence. This experiment was beneficial as it enabled me to focus on my visual interpretation of what I heard and incorporate colour into the designs later on in the process - colour being a form of adding intensity or pitch for example.
This is the digitalis-ed version which I decided to create. Overall I was happy with this experiment, as viewing this gave me a sense of perspective for my general work process and outlook on music, however it was not as good quality due to the sizing of the handmade collages where too small. However I was interested with how the different visuals ended up looking cohesive and worked well together in a sequence. I also felt the hierarchy in length and width of the sounds played a good role as it assisted in showing which chords where more prominent, as well as dominant.
I now need to choose a much shorter song, as the time I have to produce a whole outcome may be time consuming. Also to continue to explore individual sounds and experiment with mark making in order to get more direct designs.
