Today i had a critical assessment with my tutor, whereby my sketchbook and current work was looked over and I had been given feedback to progress. One of the key issues with my sketchbook was to do with not being able to identify what is what in my sketchbook. I was advised to isolate sections and give subheadings to pages and write more annotations in order for the book to be more clear. Furthermore i was encouraged to go back to experiments and do more development on them, in order to move forward and explore the subject in depth and show investigation and development skills. As well as my sketchbook i also had been given feedback on my design work.
These are some of the main outcomes that where spoken about in the assessment
For me, the most useful aspect of the feedback was when i was informed on advancing my outcomes, as they suggested i should isolate sounds and create visual outcomes for individual sounds rather than focusing on the whole song. As music does not stay the same, each chord has it's unique sound it's important to express this through my visuals. Previously i had been creating experiments that had one design throughout the duration of the song, which was said to be "tedious' and "boring". To engage the audience in the outcome, i was advised to create a range of different visual outcomes all in one sequence, so there is something to constantly look at.
I was also given feedback on my format and my final piece potentially being a book of sounds. Creating this book would give a chance for those to understand the thought process behind my visuals, with information on each design.
Having been given this feedback and analysed my work, i have learnt to question my outcomes on it's purpose and relevance to my project. Additionally i have learnt the importance of development in terms of understanding your concepts and ideas. This skill is essential to me as a designer and a learner, as it will generally guide the concepts and push them further to generate a better understanding of our own work, as well as learning to be more clear with my project themes and creating outcomes that link directly to the initial proposals.
