Today I had decided to listen to specific songs, and explore each sound and chord to create a more direct design. I began with the song Chop Suey by System Of A Down, and began scrutinising each instrument sound and experimenting with mark making.
I chose this song as it was a very dynamic song, with a constant shift in melody and music patterns, it was a very interesting song I wanted to delve into.
As I looked into this song I began to notice that there were much more significant sections in the songs than others and tried to use hierarchy as a way of communicating the sections of the songs. With much more exaggerated marks it gave you an idea of how loud and compact sections of the song are. Also using different pens to create larger, more dominant marks to express the volume and pitch in which the songs consisted.

I decided to use charcoal as my medium as I felt the feelings I got from the song where very much gloomy, as well as the content of the lyrics, and the charcoal assisted in creating different textures, while also expressing a sense of harmony as they blend well into each. This allowed the different sections of the composition to complement each other. I would focus on focal points of the song, which all added up to create the duration of the song.
Having created these designs has allowed me to understand the aspects of shape and size for communicating volume, and intensity. Additionally i have learnt that simplifying designs can make designs more efficient for communicating to an audience. I have significantly developed my understanding and knowledge on catering to the demographic and an audience; creating designs, considering it's composition and the technique in order for those viewing to understand and interpret.
This skill is essential as a designer because it enables you to create outcomes which efficiently cater to your audience.
How I could move forward and improve these designs would be to digitise and place them in possible formats, also to look at more physical forms which could relate to the sounds.
