Second Critical Assessment

Today i had received feedback and constructive criticism on my five designs I had been working on prior to the presentation feedback.
The main criticism for my current work was that it was to complicated, and the visual outcomes where not strong enough as final pieces. I was encouraged to think more simplistic on how individual sounds looked, and experiment with volume, tone and pitch. This way the representations of the sounds could be much more clear. Also to make sure my work has a story, and give my designs a narrative which can be explained and showcased. Furthermore it was important for me to research on formats on how i would like to present my outcome, and if i want to create an installation or projection, then i should experiment with the projections. This way i can see whether or not the idea is possible and efficient for my piece.

Noticing my outcomes where very much busy, and confusing they advised me to think more on composition and layout; how creating things separately then bringing together with layers may be more effective visually. Additionally to create a more visually appealing outcome which keeps in mind the whole purpose to give those an experience, creating a outcome which showcased the whole duration of a song was suggested. In doing so it would relate back to the content of my project by allowing the viewers to experience a full song.
After receiving this feedback I took it on board and began experimenting for new designs.

Having experimented and created these designs I now understand the importance of narrative and catering to an audience who may not understand my abstract pieces. As a next step i need to explore the more simplistic style and forms of techniques and relate them to sound; like drawing the volume or pitch of a instrument and experimenting with mark making.

DEATH BY NUMBERS: MAP DESIGN

I had been given feedback on this design outcome, which was to look into creating a sequence as its much clearer and relates to music and notations. Also to consider the scale and general composition and how it would be presented. Whether it would be a good out map, or a large map stuck on the wall. This feedback was essential as it assisted my understanding for format and composition, and designing an outcome which fufill the main objective or some how supports it. After been given feedback for this design I began to work on my designs in a different composition, and working on a way of putting my individual outcomes into a sequence.

Optical Illusions and patterns

I decided to look into optical illusions as it enables the human eye to visualize something 2D move as if it is 3D. I want to incorporate the art of illusion into my pieces to create animations out of paintings.  As i researched into optical illusions i began to realise that they consisted of quite basic lines patterns and shapes which I felt could well represent frequency and flow in music. Exploring illusions also allowed me to understand structure in which i could incorporate in my designs. With lines being more prominent than others in optical illusions and shapes being larger it displays the use of hierarchy, which i can relate to the instrumentation and structures of music. David Szakaly  I decided to look into the designer David Szakaly, as he uses shape and form to create these smooth transitioned, illusion like gifs. I was very interested in how the shapes morphed, it reminded me of music visualiser in a sense of capturing the movement of the sound...
